ex-Dixie III (SP 701)

Dixie III served both the State of Maine and the U. S. Navy.

Motorboat:

  • Built in 1911 by Bowes and Mower, Philadelphia, PA
  • Commission as USS Dixie III (SP 701), 1 May 1917
  • Delivered to the Navy 1 August 1917
  • Renamed SP-701 in April 1918
  • Struck from the Navy Register 7 May 1919 and returned to the State of Maine
  • Fate unknown.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 27 t.
  • Length 64' 1"
  • Beam 10' 6"
  • Draft 4'
  • Speed 10 kts.
  • Complement 10
  • Armament: One machine gun
  • Propulsion: One 65hp 4-cylinder Standard gasoline engine, one shaft
