Mundelta Class Freighter:

  • Built in 1917 by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Newport News, VA
  • Launched 17 October 1917
  • Delivered to the Munson Line 7 December 1917
  • Acquired by the Navy 17 December 1917 and commissioned the same day
  • Decommissioned 24 July 1919 and returned to the United States Shipping Board for return to her owners
  • Sold in 1937 to the Roussos Co. of Greece and renamed Elena R.
  • Mined 22 November 1939 in a mine field laid by the German submarine U-26 off the Shambles Lightship near Portland, England, while on a voyage from Rosario, Argentina to Antwerp, Belgium with grain.

  • Length 385'
  • Beam 53'
  • Draft 24'
  • Speed 11.5 kts.
  • Complement 62
  • Armament: One 4"/50 and one 3"/50 mount
