Teresa served both the U. S. Army and Navy.


Freighter:

  • Built in 1899 as Austrian at Russel and Co., Port Glasgow, Scotland for Fratelli Cosulich of Trieste, Italy
  • Launched 8 Decenber 1899
  • Sold in 1906 to Union-Austriaca di Nav
  • Acquired by the Army 27 September 1917 and transferred to the Navy at Newport News, VA and commissioned USS Teresa (ID 4478) the same day
  • Decommissioned 9 July 1919 at Philadelphia, PA and returned to the United States Shipping Board the same day
  • Sold in 1923 to G. Perivolaris of Chios, Greece and renamed Demokratia
  • Renamed Phoenix in 1932
  • Scrapped 14 November 1932 at Genoa, Italy.

  • Length 276' 9"
  • Beam 49' 9"
  • Draft 17' 9"
  • Speed 8 kts.
  • Complement 62
  • Armament: Two 4"/40 mounts
  • Propulsion: Two single ended and one auxiliary boiler, one 1,2006ihp verticle triple expansion steam engine, one shaft.
