Lighthouse Tender:

  • Built in 1851 as Challenge by William B. Bates and Son, Manitowoc, Wisonsin for Jarvis Eliphalete and O. H. Platt of Manitowoc
  • Purchased in May 1856 by the Lighthouse Board and commissioned as USLHT Challenge
  • Renamed Lamplighter 29 April 1857
  • Sold in 1862 and renamed Challenge
  • Beached 5 September 1910, 12 miles south of Sheboygan, WI and abandoned.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 110 t.
  • Length 85'
  • Beam 22'
  • Draft 6.5'
  • Propulsion: Sail.
