Thomas Blackthorne served the Navies of Great Britain and the United States

Castle Class Trawler:

  • Built in 1917 by Cook, Welton, and Gemmell, Ltd., Beverley, England
  • Launched 6 June 1918
  • Placed in service as HMT Thomas Blackhorne (FY 3606)
  • Leased to the U.S. Navy in May 1919
  • Commissioned UST Thomas Blackhorne 16 May 1919 at Falmouth, England
  • Decommissioned 6 October 1919 at Brighton, England and returned to the Admiralty
  • Sold in 1922 and renamed Alexandrite
  • Wrecked in 1923.

  • Displacement 269 t.
  • Length 125' 5"
  • Draft 12' 7"
  • Speed 10 kts.
  • Complement 17
  • Armament: One 12-pounder
  • Propulsion: One boiler, one 480hp vertical triple expansion reciprocating steam engine, one shaft.
