Freighter:

  • Built in 1911 by the Newport News Steam and Dry Dock Co., Newport News, VA
  • Acquired by the Navy 11 December 1918 at Baltimore, MD and commissioned USS Montoso the same day
  • Decommissioned 1 March 1919 at Baltimore and returned to the United States Shipping Board for return to her owners
  • Sold to China in 1947 and renamed Chee Hsing
  • Renamed Starside in 1950
  • Scrapped in 1951.

  • Speed 10 kts.
  • Complement 34
  • Armament: One 4" and one 3" mount
