Mohawk served the Revenue Cutter Service and the U.S. Navy.

Sunk 1 October 1917

Revenue Cutter:

  • Built in 1902 by William R. Trigg, Richmond, VA
  • Commissioned Revenue Cutter Mohawk 10 May 1904
  • Acquired by the Navy 6 April 1917 and commissioned USS Mohawk
  • Struck by the British tanker SS Vennacher 1 October 1917 and sank 10 miles south of Jones Beach and 12.5 miles from Sandy Hook, NJ
  • The salvage rights to her sunken wreck were sold to the H. L. Gotham Corporation, of 15 Park Row in New York City, on 7 February 1921 for $111.00.

  • Length 205' 6"
  • Beam 32'
  • Draft 12' 7"
  • Speed 8 kts.
  • Complement 41
  • Armament: Two 6-pound rapid-fire guns
    1914 - Four 6-pound rapid fire guns
  • Propulsion: Two boilers, one triple-expansion 25", 37½" and 56¼" diameter x 30" stroke steam engine, one shaft.
