Hiawatha Class District Harbor Tug:
  • Laid down, 13 April 1942, as the Maritime Commission type VE-ME-A1 harbor tug Port Madison, (MC hull 436) by Birchfield Boiler Co., Inc., Tacoma, WA.
  • Launched 14 July 1942
  • Designated to the US Navy, 4 July 1942, renamed Sakarissa
  • Delivered to the Maritime Commission and transferred to the US Navy, 12 April 1943
  • Placed in service, 26 April 1943, as Sakarissa (YT-269)
  • Assigned to assist in the assembly and towing of USS ABSD-1 to Espiritu Santo, New Hebrides Islands, arriving 2 October 2943
  • Redesignated large harbor tug YTB-269, 15 May 1944
  • Arrived with USS ABSD-1 at Samar, Philippine Islands, in spring 1945
  • Mid-April 1946 Sakarissa departed the Philippines for the US via the Marshall Islands and Pearl Harbor, reaching San Francisco, 22 August 1946
  • Redesignated medium harbor tug YTM-269 in February 1962
  • Place out of service and struck from the Naval Register, 15 January 1974
  • Transferred to the Maritime Administration for further service with the Reserve Fleet at Suisun Bay, CA.
  • Current Disposition, purchased by Mr. Harold Elliott, undergoing restoration
