  • Ordered, 20 December 1863
  • Laid down, 1864
  • Launched, 08 April 1865
  • Completed as tugboat Speedwell, 13 November 1865
  • Stationed at Portsmouth Navy Yard, 1865 - 1877
  • On duty with Fish Commission, 1878
  • Stationed at Washington Navy Yard, 1878 - 1884
  • Stationed at Norfolk Navy Yard, 1884 - 1890
  • Declared unfit for sea service and condemned at Norfolk, 1890
  • Struck from Naval Register, 19 December 1890
  • Offered for sale but no bids received, April 1891
  • Readvertised for sale but again no bids received, 26 April 1894
  • Sold to Oscar F. Smith, Norfolk, VA, for $337, 23 July 1894
  • Converted to seagoing barge, renamed Viola W. Tunis (ON 61171), documented 1902
  • Foundered in gale about 25 miles SW of Diamond Shoal Lightship, 06 May 1912
