Allaquippa Class District Harbor Tug:
  • Built by Gulfport Boiler and Welding Works, Port Arthur, TX (YN 194)
  • Laid down under terms of the Lend Lease Act for the Royal Navy as the District Harbor Tug Resolute (BYT-5), 1942
  • Launched, date unknown
  • Acquired by the Royal Navy when completed, commissioned HMT Resolute, April 1942
  • Acquired by the US Navy and placed in service as Evea (YT-458) the same day, 16 May 1943
  • Intially assigned to the Moroccan Sea Frontier, based at Bizerte
  • During World War II Evea (YT-458 / YTB-458) was first assigned to the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater and participated in the following campaigns:

    Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaigns
    Campaign and Dates Campaign and Dates
    Sicilian occupation, 9 to 15 July 1943 Invasion of Southern France, 15 August to 25 September 1944
    Salerno landings, 9 to 21 September 1943  

  • Reclassified as Large Harbor Tug YTB-458, 15 May 1944
  • Transferred under Lend-Lease to France at Toulon as Malabar (A 907), 10 November 1944
  • Transferred to Diego Suarez, Madagascar, 1947
  • Capsized and sank while assisting British tanker Mobil Enterprise outside port of Diego Suarez with loss of seven crew, 19 May 1967
