  • Built by Barrett & Hilp, South San Francisco, CA (YN 2)
  • Ordered, 30 June 1942
  • Completed for Maritime Commission as B7-D1 concrete barge Chromite (ON 175820, MC hull 1320), September 1943
  • Transferred to Army as large cargo barge BCL 3098 soon after completion 1
  • Departed Honolulu for Eniwetok, 24 August 1944
  • Served at Eniwetok, September - October 1944
  • Towed by Vestal (AR-4) from Eniwetok to Ulithi, 04-15 October 1944
  • Served at Ulithi, October 1944 - May 1945
  • Towed from Ulithi to Saipan by ATA-185, 26 May - 01 June 1945
  • Transferred to Navy, designated Large Covered Lighter YFNB-1, late 1945
  • Struck from the Naval Register, date unknown
  • Transferred to Department of Interior, for use in Trust Territories, 1952
  • Final Disposition, used as breakwater at Ennylabagen Islet, Kwajalein, since early 1960s
    1. Chromite was originally acquired by the Army as BCL 2570, but then returned to the WSA and later reacquired as BCL 3098. Some sources still refer to her by the earlier number, but all war diaries and routing orders refer to her as 3098.
