  • Built in 1895 as the self propelled hydraulic dredge General C.B. Comstock at Perth Amboy, N.J.
  • Machinery by Bucyrus Steam Shovel & Dredge Co., South Milwaukee, WI.
  • Launched in 1895
  • Delivered in 1895 to the U.S. Army Engineering Department
  • Assigned to U.S. Army Engineering Department Galveston District
  • Christened, commissioned and placed in service as USED Dredge General C.B. Comstock in 1895
  • Driven ashore by a hurricane at Galveston in 1900
  • Fuel source change from coal to oil in 1902
  • Lent to US Army Engineering Department Wilmington District in 1910
  • While assigned to the Wilmington District General C.B. Comstock dredged at Arkansas Pass and Freemont
  • Final Disposition, on 17 February 1913 C.B. Comstock caught fire off the mouth of the Brazos River and burned to the waterline

    48k USED Dredge General C.B. Comstock on fire, 17 February 1913. C.B. Comstock cought fire off the mouth of the Brazos River and burned to the waterline. There were no casualties and the dredge was declared a total loss.
