Namesake
George C. Grugett - George Carroll Grugett served with the 12th Air Force as an Army Air Corps Bomber Pilot in World War II from 1943-1945, flying 47 successful
combat missions in the European Theater. After the war George attended The University of Alabama and The University of Mississippi. Following college he joined the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers in Memphis, TN and began a 35 year career. After retiring from the Corps in 1980, George was selected as Executive Vice President of the
Mississippi Valley Flood Control Association, where he served another 33 years. George has received numerous awards for his public service including the Meritorious
Civilian Service Award, presented by the Secretary of the Army, and the Silver Order of the de Fleury Medal, presented by the Commanding General, US Army Corps of
Engineers.
