USED Towboat Chisca

Sternwheel Towboat:
  • Built in 1897 for the Mississippi River Commission as the wooden steamer Chisca at D&J Howard Shipyard and Dock Co., Jeffersonville, IN.
  • Launched 1897
  • Delivered the Mississippi River Commission in 1897
  • Acquired by the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1903
  • Commissioned USED Towboat Chisca in 1905
  • Chisca was assigned to the US Army Corps of Engineers Memphis District
  • Chisca operated on the lower Mississippi River
  • Rebuilt with steel hull in 1923 (185.5 x 34 x 6)
  • Retired from Army service, decommissioned circa 1947
  • Sold in 1947 at public auction to Pioneer Construction Co., Dyersburg, TN.
  • Final Disposition, dismantled in 1949
