USED Towboat Control


Sternwheel Towboat:
  • Built in 1905, as Scimitar II Ed J. Howard Shipyard, Jeffersonville, IN. as a pleasure craft and packet boat
  • Launched in 1905
  • Delivered to the US Army Corps of Engineers, 1n 1906, renamed Control
  • Commissioned in 1906 as USED Towboat Control
  • Assigned to the US Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District
  • Wooden hull replaced in 1921 by a steel hull built at Dravo Contracting, Neville, Island, PA.
  • Steel hull towed to Vicksburg where upper works, machinery, etc. were added
  • Retired in 1940
  • Sold at public auction, 7 May 1940, to CAPT. George Prince
  • Final Disposition, resold in 1941 to to be broken up at Harvey, LA.
