USED Towboat / Snagboat Kentucky


Sternwheel Towboat / Snagboat:
  • Built in 1909 by Howard Shipyard, Jeffersonville, IN. for the US Army Engineers
  • Launched in 1909
  • Christened and and put into service as USED Towboat Kentucky in 1909
  • Assigned to the US Army Engineers Nashville District
  • USED Towboat/Snagboat Kentucky worked mainly on the Kentucky River
  • Wooden hull replaced with a steel hull in 1921 by Nashville Bridge Co. (148.5' x 32' x 5.5')
  • Boilers replaced in 1943 with three coal burning boilers built by Acme Works, Gallipolis, rated at 250 psi.
  • Retired from Army service, circa 1947
  • Sold in 1947 Charles Zubik, Pittsburgh, PA.
  • Final Disposition, re-sold in 1947 to Hatfield Campbell Creek Coal Co., and dismantled at Point Pleasant, W.VA.
