USED Towboat Alert (II)


Sternwheel Towboat:
  • Built in 1874 as the Steam Packet Ada B. at Stillwater, MN. for merchant service
  • Launched in 1874
  • Acquired by the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1878
  • Christened, Commissioned in 1878, and put into service by the US Army Corps of Engineers as the towboat USED Alert
  • Assigned to the US Army Corp of Engineers Rock Island District
  • Rebuilt, date unknown, 130' x 19.5' x 3.9'
  • Retired from Army service, date unknown
  • Sold to private owners about 1924
  • Final Disposition, lost in August, 1928 at Musick Ferry landing in Missouri when gale force winds broke her loose from her moorings and she capsized
