Sternwheel Towboat:
  • Built in 1913 at Charles Barnes Co., Cincinnati, OH.
  • Launched in 1913
  • Acquired in 1913 by the US Army Corp of Engineers Cincinnati District
  • Christened, commissioned and and put into service as USED Towboat Scioto in 1913
  • Scioto operated on the Ohio River
  • Retired from US Army service, date unknown
  • Sold at public auction in March 1948 to R.J. Nugent, renamed R.J. Nugent
  • 31 March 1948, she collided with the tourist steamer Gordon C. Greene at Twelve Mile Island, Ohio River resulting in damage to both.
  • Sold in April 1951 to J. W. Menke of St. Louis who took her around under her own steam and moored her at the wharf with his showboat Goldenrod
  • Sold in October 1951, to Bernard Bros Auto Supply Co., New Iberia, LA., converted into a quarterboat
  • Renamed Miss Louisianain 1953
  • Final Disposition, fate unknown

    Namesake

    Scioto - The Scioto River is a river in central and southern Ohio more than 231 miles in length. It rises in Hardin County just north of Roundhead, Ohio, flows through Columbus, Ohio, where it collects its largest tributary, the Olentangy River, and meets the Ohio River at Portsmouth.
