USED Towboat Arthur Hider

Sternwheel Towboat:
  • Laid down in 1898 as the towboat Arthur Hider for the Mississippi River Commission at Howard Shipyard, Jeffersonville, IN.
  • Launched in 1898
  • Named for the principal assistant engineer of the Mississippi River Commission
  • Delivered to the Mississippi River Commission in 1898
  • Acquired by the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1906
  • Commissioned in 1906 and placed in service as USED Towboat Arthur Hider
  • Assigned to the US Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg, District
  • Arthur Hider operated on the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers
  • Retired from US Army service in 1935
  • Sold at public auction in September 1935 to A.O. Kirschner of Cincinatti, OH.
  • Sold in December 1947 to CAPT. W.C. Beatty at Cincinatti
  • Final Disposition, dismantled in 1947-48
