USED Towboat General Allen


Towboat:
  • Built in 1916 at Howard Shipyard, Jeffersonville, IN. as Minnesota for Dr. Charles H. Mayo as a pleasure boat
  • Launched in 1916
  • Delivered in 1916
  • Purchased by the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1922 at Fountain City, WI.
  • Renamed, commissioned and placed in service in 1922 as USED Towboat General Allen
  • Assigned to the US Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District
  • Retired from US Army service in 1925
  • Transferred in 1925 to the Federal Barge Lines
  • Sold in 1943 to Central Barge Lines of Rock Island, IL., renamed Minnesota
  • In February 1944 she was dismantled and converted into a landing boat at Joliet, IL.
  • In 1966 Minnesota's remains were moved to St. Louis
  • In December 1967 she became the restaurant boat River Queen replacing the ex-Gordon C. Greene which had sunk 3 December 1967
  • Final Disposition, sank at St. Louis, 24 January 1978, then carrying the name Cotton Blossom
