USED Towboat Chicot


Sternwheel Towboat:
  • Built in 1925 as a wooden steamer by Howards Shipyard, Jeffersonville, IN.
  • Launched in 1925
  • Christened, commissioned and placed in service in 1925 by the U.S. Engineering Department as USED Towboat Chicot
  • Assigned to the US Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District
  • Chicot worked on the Mississippi River
  • Retired from Army service, after June 1941
  • Sold in 1941 to Commercial Barge Lines, Evansville, IN., renamed Jerome D. Beeler
  • In 1943 Commercial Barge Lines renamed her Alec Parnie
  • Sold in 1946 to C.C. Stone of Point Pleasant, W.VA. with plans convert her power plant to diesel, this never happened
  • Final Disposition, dismantled, superstructure removed in 1954, her steel hull became a floating wharf. Her hull was later abandoned
