USED Towboat Jupiter


Sternwheel Towboat:
  • Built in 1912 by Howard Shipyard, Jeffersonville, IN.
  • Launched in 1912
  • Delivered in 1912 to the US Army Engineers
  • Christened, commissioned and placed in service in 1912 by the U.S. Army Engineers as USED Towboat Jupiter
  • Assigned to the U.S. Army Engineers Memphis District
  • Jupiter worked as a sounding and survey boat on the Mississippi River
  • Retired from US Army service, circa 1950
  • Sold in 1950 at public sale to Weymouth Construction Co. of Memphis, TN.
  • Sold in 1951 to CAPT. A.C. Johnson
  • Rebuilt in 1953 at Vicksburg Marine Ways as a twin-prop twin diesel boat towboat
  • Renamed Point Landing in 1957
  • Final Disposition, fate unknown
