USED Towboat Margaret

Sternwheel Towboat:
  • Built in 1910 by Sherdian-Kirk Contracting Co., Guild, TN.
  • Launched, in 1910
  • Placed in service in 1910 by Sherdian-Kirk Contracting Co.
  • Acquired by the US Army Corps of Engineers, circa 1920 at Portsmouth, OH.
  • Christened, commissioned and placed in service as USED Towboat Margaret circa 1920
  • Assigned to the US Army Corps of Engineers Cincinnati District
  • Margaret was employed by Corps of Engineers in the construction of Dam 34 on the Ohio River
  • On 18 December 1920 Margaret overturned about three miles below Augusta, Kentucky while near the Kentucky shore, Thirteen persons drowned
  • Margaret was raised and rebuilt (113 x 23 x 3.5)
  • Retired from US Army service, circa 1920s
  • Sold to John F. Klein, circa 1926, renamed Gerard Klein
  • Final Disposition, burned at Manchester, OH., 20 September 1934
