USED Towboat Neenah


Sternwheel Towboat:
  • Built in 1928 by Sturgeon Bay Shipbuilding & Drydock, Sturgeon BAy, WI.
  • Launched, date unknown
  • Delivered to the US Army Corps of Engineers, date unknown
  • Christened, commissioned and placed in service as USED Towboat Neenah, date unknown
  • Assigned to the US Army Corps of Engineers District, date unknown
  • USED Neenah was used for repairs on the Fox River
  • Retired from Army service, date unknown
  • Acquired by Gallagher Marine Construction of Escanaba, MI.and renamed Shamrock
  • Resold 1954 to the Arnold Transit Company of Mackinac Island, MI.
  • In 1955 Shamrock was converted to a barge and had her deckhouse removed
  • She was then used for hauling hay and other freight to Mackinac Island from the mainland and nicknamed the "hay barge"
  • Shamrock was sold by Arnold around the early 90s and has been used for various jobs in the area since then
  • Current Disposition, Shamrock is currently laid up on the Cheboygan River in Cheboygan, MI., with her original steam engine still in place
