USED Snagboat Seizer


Sternwheel Snagboat:
  • Built in 1881 at Stockton, CA.
  • Launched, in 1881
  • Delivered to the US Engineering Department, Sacramento District to serve as the first snagboat on in the Sacrmento-San Joaquin River Delta
  • Commissioned, USED Seizer in 1881
  • Seizer served on the Sacramento, Mokelumne, and San Joaquin Rivers removing debris and sunken obstacles hazardous to navigation
  • Overhauled in 1895, fitted with a coal-burning boiler.
  • Overhauled, circa 1919, to an oil fired boiler
  • Retired from Army service and dismantled in 1921 after completion of her replacement USED Snagboat Bear
  • Converted into a quarterboat, her steam engine was utilized in the snagboat USED Yuba built in 1925.
  • Final Disposition, fate unknown

    173k USED Snagboat Seizer removing trees from the Sacramento River in Yolo County, CA. Seizer had several Hawaiians working as divers in her crew. They would dive into the murky waters of the river and attach the chains and cables to the trees and snags to be removed from the water.
