FG-1D, BuNo 92023, VF-85, 9 August 1945. ENS Max "Doc" Snavely landed hot with no flaps, caught 11th wire and tail was ripped off. Pilot (seen being assisted down from his cockpit) uninjured, plane shoved over the side. VF-85 had a mix of F4U-1C and FG-1D Corsairs, and F6F-5P and F6F-5N Hellcats. Shangri-La's planes bombed Honshu and Hokkaido on that date.

On 8–12 January 1946 Shangri-La conducted CarQuals for Air Groups 5 and 7. In a string of bad luck, 10 aircraft suffered accidents, and four of them were definitely lost. (See also NS0238al.)
