CAPT. David L. Bossert

A native of Ft Walton Beach FL, CAPT Bossert graduated from Louisiana State University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He recently completed his tour as Assistant Deputy Director, Antiterrorism/Force Protection, under Deputy Director for Antiterrorism/Homeland Defense in the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Operations Directorate (J3).

Bossert's sea duty assignments include tours as communications officer, damage control assistant, and chief engineer in USS Boulder (LST 1190); assistant operations / ship-to-shore officer at Commander, Amphibious Squadron Six; auxiliaries officer in USS Wasp (LHD-1); first lieutenant in USS Ashland (LSD 48); operations officer in USS Shreveport (LPD 12); and executive officer in USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44). In November 2006, Bossert assumed command of USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49), one of four forward deployed naval forces amphibious ships based in Sasebo, Kyushu, Japan. He next reported to the staff of Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group Seven/Commander Task Force 76 as operations and plans officer, headquartered in Okinawa, Japan.

Ashore, Bossert served at Navy Personnel Command from 2002 to 2006 as a branch head in Surface Warfare Officer Assignment division (PERS 41) where he supervised a 6.2 million dollar budget. Bossert graduated with a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval Command and Staff Course at the Naval War College in Newport, R.I. in 2000, and completed JPME Phase II at the Joint Forces Staff College. In August 2010, Bossert reported to the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, serving in two capacities in the Operations (J3) Directorate. After serving a year as Defense Critical Infrastructure and Antiterrorism Assessments division chief, Bossert assumed duties as assistant deputy director, Antiterrorism/Force Protection under the Deputy Director Antiterrorism/Homeland Defense (J34).

Bossert’s decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various campaign and service awards.
