USS Kearsarge (LHD-3)


CAPT. Jason E. Rimmer USN
Commanding Officer

Capt. Jason Rimmer is a third generation Sailor and native of Texas. He was commissioned in 1995 and graduated with merit from the U. S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He was designated a naval aviator in June 1997 and has flown the SH-60B Seahawk helicopter throughout his career.

His sea assignments have included: Navigator, USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72); Commanding Officer and Executive Officer, Helicopter Anti-Submarine Light (HSL) 49; Department Head, HSL-49 and Helicopter Detachment Officer in Charge deploying in USS Princeton (CG 59); Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer and V-2 Division Officer, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69); and Division Officer, HSL-43 deploying twice in USS Jarrett (FFG 33).

His shore assignments have included: Deputy, Vertical Lift and Executive Assistant, Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW); Deputy, Net-Centric Innovation Division, Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO); and Assistant Professor of Naval Science, George Washington University Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit.

He graduated from the George Washington University earning a Master’s in Business Administration. He is also a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College where he was awarded the MacArthur Award for writing.

Rimmer reported as the Executive Officer in USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) in June 2017 and assumed command in November 2018.

His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), and Navy Achievement Award. He is proud to have served in commands that have received unit commendation and Battle Efficiency awards.
