Commanding Officer

Capt. Eric S. Kellum is from Beaumont, Texas. He is a 1996 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. In 2004 he received a master’s degree in environmental management from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Kellum’s operational assignments include serving as the gunnery/missiles officer aboard the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Shiloh (CG 67); reactor mechanical division officer and main propulsion assistant aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70); operations officer aboard the Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship USS Oak Hill (LSD 51); reactor mechanical assistant aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65); executive officer and commanding officer aboard the Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43); and the reactor officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75).

His shore assignments include serving as the officer in charge for the Texas Maritime ROTC in Galveston, Texas; junior board member of the nuclear propulsion examining board, east; executive assistant to the director of the naval nuclear power program for aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion) operations; and a division chief in the deputy director of global operations joint staff.

Kellum is a nuclear qualified surface warfare officer. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and service awards.
