USS Germantown (LSD-42)


CDR. Jason R. Leach USN
Commander Jason Leach graduated from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Engineering and was commissioned and an Ensign in the United States Navy Reserve.

He served division officer tours in USS MERRIL (DD 976) and USS BELLEAU WOOD (LHA 3). Following his sea tours Commander Leach’s first shore tour was at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He received a Masters of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Naval architecture.

Upon completion of Department Head School in Newport, Rhode Island in 2002, he reported to the USS PEARL HARBOR (LSD 52) as the Engineering Officer based in San Diego, California, followed by a tour as an Engineering Training Officer and Engineering Assessor at the Pacific Fleet Afloat Training Group. He then served a tour as the Navigator in USS BOXER (LHD 4). Upon the Successful completion of his department head tours, he attended the Naval War College in Newport, RI. He received a Masters of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies and his Joint Professional Military Education Phase One Certificate. While attending the Naval War College he was a member of the Naval Staff College class of 2008. Following the Naval War College, Commander Leach attended Defense Language Institute where he studied Spanish for his tour as the Assistant Operations Officer in the Military Assistance and Advisory Group Lima, Peru. He has served onboard USS Germantown as the Executive Officer prior to assuming command. Commander Leach’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with two Gold stars and the Navy Achievement Medal with two Gold stars. He has also been awarded various campaign and unit awards.
