AMS-72 was built for Italy
Adjutant Class Motor Minesweeper: Laid down as Dotterel (AMS 72) by the Burger Boat Co., Manitowoc, WI; Completed 13 January 1953 and transferred to Italy as Abete (M 5501). The name Dotterel was canceled 9 June 1952. Reclassified by U. S. Navy as a Coastal Minesweeper, MSC-72, 7 February 1955; Scrapped in 1977.

Specifications: Displacement 405 t.; Length 144'; Beam 27'; Draft 9'; Speed 14 kts; Complement 40; Armament, two twin 20-mm; Propulsion General Motors diesels, two shafts.

426k Launching party of the Dotterel & Sponsor Mrs. Florine P. Old, (with flowers) appear prior to her launching 17 April 1952. Her husband, Admiral Frances Paxton Old & Henry C. Burger, President of the Burger Boat Company, appear in the left corner of the photo.
My guess is that the two ladies next to Henry C. Burger are Admiral & Mrs. Old's daughters, Mrs. Beverley Robie and Mrs. Claudia Chandler.
Her husband served as commandant of the 9th Naval District and later as executive director of the Illinois Toll Road Commission. He commanded the battleship Indiana (BB-58) during World War II.

The name Dotterel was assigned erroneously to AMS-72 which was building for the Military Defense Assistance Program. The name was canceled on 9 June 1953.
