Reading served the Navies of the United States and Argentina

Tacoma Class Patrol Frigate:

  • (MC Type T. S2-S2-AQ1) Originally authorized as Patrol Gunboat, PG-174
  • Reclassified as a Patrol Frigate, PF-66, 15 April 1943
  • Laid down 23 May 1943 under a Maritime Commission contract at Leathem D. Smith Shipyard, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin
  • Launched 28 August 1943
  • Commissioned USS Reading (PF-66), 19 August 1944 at New Orleans, LA
  • Decommissioned 19 December 1945 at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, VA
  • Struck from the Navy Register 8 January 1946
  • Turned over to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission
  • Sold in June 1946 to the United Boat Service Co. of New York
  • Resold to Argentina in July 1947 and renamed ARA Heroina (P 32)
  • Scrapped in 1966.

  • Propulsion: Two 3-drum express boilers, two 5,500ihp Koppers Co. engines, two shafts.
