Howarda served both the U. S. Navy and Coast Guard

Patrol Yacht:

  • Built in 1913 by the Essington Co., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Acquired by the Navy 11 June 1917
  • Commissioned USS Howarda (SP 144), 19 June 1917 at Key West, FL
  • Struck from the Navy list 31 March 1919
  • Transferred to the Coast Guard 3 May 1919 at Key West, FL
  • Commissioned USCGC Vidette 1 July 1919
  • Sold 28 March 1925 to Albert J. Wilcott of Miami, FL for $550.
  • Fate unknown.

  • Length 75'
  • Beam 16'
  • Draft 3' 4"
  • Speed 9 kts.
  • Complement: Seven
    1920 - Three
  • Armament: One 3-pounder and one machine gun
  • Propulsion: Two 36hp 4-cylinder Standard gasoline engines, two shafts.
