Sternwheel Towboat:
  • Built in 1897 for the US Army Corp of Engineers as the towboat Col. G.L. Gillespie at Howard Shipyard & Dock Co., Jeffersonville IN.
  • Launched in 1897
  • Delivered to the US Army Corps of Engineers, in 1897
  • Christened and and put into service as USED Towboat Col.G.L. Gillespie in 1897
  • USED Towboat Col;. G.L. Gillespie was assigned to the US Army Corps on Engineers, Louisville District
  • Col. G.L. Gillespie worked the Ohio River
  • Rebuilt at the USED Repair Station, Louisville, KY. 1n 1909 (119' x 25' 3'5"
  • Rebuilt entirely at Louisville and given a new hull in 1923-24, (119'5" x 23'2" x 4'"8), converted to diesel-electric propulsion, renamed Shawnee
  • Retired from Army service in 1931
  • Sold to Costanzo Coal Co., Warwood, W.VA. in February 1931
  • Sank at the Richland mine at Warwood, 31 May 1931
  • Raised and swapped to Hlllman Coal and Coke Co. in 1931 for the towboat A.R. Budd
  • Sold to CAPT. Charles T. Campbell of Campbell Transportation Co. in August 1931
  • After modification Campbell brought her out with a single deck in 1934
  • Final Disposition, sold in 1941 to Charles Zubick and dismantled
