    Namesake
    General H.L. Abbot - Henry Larcom Abbot (August 13, 1831 – October 1, 1927) was a military engineer and career officer in the United States Army. He served in the Union Army during the American Civil War and was appointed brevet brigadier general of volunteers for his contributions in engineering and artillery. In 1866 he received additional brevet appointments as major general of volunteers and brigadier general in the Regular Army. He conducted several scientific studies of the Mississippi River with Captain, later Major General Andrew A. Humphreys. After his retirement, Abbot served as a consultant for the locks on the Panama Canal. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1863. (Wikipedia)

    Namesake
    General J.H. Simpson - James Hervey Simpson (1813–1883) was an officer in the U.S. Army and a member of the United States Corps of Topographical Engineers. In 1849 while assigned to the New Mexico Expedition he surveyed a road from Fort Smith, Arkansas to Santa Fe, New Mexico. In 1858-59 Simpson took part in the Utah EXepedition and lead a survey across the Great Salt Lake Basin. During the Civil War Simpson served as colonel of the 4th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry and was captured at the Battle of Gaines's Mill. He was paroled and returned, but resigned his commission returning to his rank of major in the Corps of Topographical Engineers where he was assigned to the Department of the Ohio and was in charge of the expansion and improvements of the defenses for Cincinnati, Ohio. After the Civil War Simpson was named chief engineer of the Interior Department. He oversaw the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad. In 1880 he retired to St. Paul, Minnesota, and died there on March 2, 1883. (Wikipedia)
