  • 27 August 1943: Keel laid by the Consolidated Steel Corp., Ltd., Orange, Tex.
  • 06 November 1943: Launched and christened, sponsored by Mrs. Arnold F. Brunkow, sister of the late Ens. Varian
  • 29 February 1944: Commissioned, Lcdr. C. W. Petrie, USNR, in command
  • 16 January 1945: Varian, in company with Otter (DE 210), Hubbard (DE 211), and Hayter (DE 212) sank the German submarine U-248 NNE of the Azores
  • 25 October 1945: Celebrated Navy Day at New Haven, Conn. in company with Eugene A. Green (DD 711), Tarpon (SS 175), Plunger (SS 179), Knave (AM 256), and LST 506
  • 15 March 1946: Decommissioned at Green Cove Springs, Fla. after 2 years and ½ month of service
  • 01 December 1972: Struck from the NVR
  • 02 January 1974: Sold for scrapping to the Southern Scrap Metal Co., New Orleans, La.
