    Boone 97k Artist's conception of Boone by the renowned graphic illustrator John Barrett, with the text written by naval author and historian Robert F. Sumrall. Their company, Navy Yard Associates, offers prints of most destroyers, submarines and aircraft carriers in various configurations during the ship's lifetime.     Boone 23k Joel Thompson Boone was born on 29 August 1889 in St. Clair, Pa. and received his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1913. After his graduation he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve Medical Corps and in 1915 was transferred to the Regular Navy. While serving with the U.S. Marines at Vierzy, France on 19 July 1918 he earned the Medal of Honor. From 1922 to 1933 he served as White House physician to Presidents Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover.

    After many other postings he eventually became the Inspector General, U.S. Navy Medical Corps in 1950. He retired from the Navy as a Vice Admiral in 1950 and served as Medical Director of the Veteran's Administration until 1955. He resided in Washington, D.C. with his wife Helen Koch Boone until his death, on 2 April 1974, and burial at Arlington National Cemetary.
