Gary 396k 29 May 2002: Yokosuka, Japan - U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye (D-Hawaii) visits with sailors aboard the frigate USS Gary during the Senator's goodwill trip to forward deployed naval forces stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. Senator Inouye emphasized the purpose of his trip was to meet and thank forward deployed sailors serving the United States abroad. Sen. Inouye also met with sailors aboard the 7th Fleet Command Ship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) and Commander, Fleet Activities, Yokosuka, Japan.

Gary 522k 22 June 2003: Cochin, India - Operations Specialist 3rd Class Alexander Chobot from Chicago, Ill., and Sonar Technician 1st Class Ehron Stout from Havana, Ill., both assigned to the guided missile frigate Gary, scrape paint from playground equipment in preparation for painting with the assistance of some children during a community service project at the SOS Children's Village, and orphanage.

Gary 327k 13 August 2004: Sea of Japan - Boatswains Mate 1st Class Tony Cloud assigned to the guided missile frigate Gary signals a U.S. Army UH-60A Blackhawk to hover during a semi-annual deck landing qualification off the coast of Chinhae, Korea. The Blackhawk helicopter and crew are attached to the Bravo Company, 1st of the 52nd Regiment stationed in Seoul, Korea.

Gary 399k 05 October 2004: Off the coast of India - Indian Navy officers Lt. Cmdr. Amarjeet Saluja, top left, and Lt. Sanjeer Khosla observe as the crew of the guided missile frigate USS Gary prepare for a replenishment at sea (RAS) with the Indian Navy replenishment and repair ship INS Aditya (A 59). Gary, along with the guided missile cruiser USS Cowpens (CG 63) and the attack submarine USS Alexandria (SSN 757), are off the coast of India to take part in exercise Malabar 04 with the Indian Navy. Malabar is designed to increase interoperability between the two navies while enhancing the cooperative security relationship between India and the United States. The at-sea exercise includes maritime interdiction, surface events, sub-surface, air events and personnel exchanges.

Gary 364k 06 October 2004: Off the Indian Coast - Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Steven Douglas and Boatswain's Mate 1st Class Ross Zahara, both assigned to the guided missile frigate Gary, assist members of an Indian Navy Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) boarding team. The team, from the Indian Navy frigate INS Brahmaputra (F 31), received assistance from U.S. Navy Sailors, who conducted training on procedures for boarding, searching, and handling suspect vessels. Both ships are taking part in exercise Malabar 04.

Currently under way in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility, Gary demonstrates power projection and sea control as one of the USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) Carrier Strike Group's forward-deployed frigates, operating from Yokosuka, Japan.

Gary 285k 26 March 2005: the Pacific Ocean - Sonar Technician 1st Class Christopher Fromknecht fires a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun from the forecastle of the guided missile frigate Gary during a weapons familiarization exercise. The shoot was organized as a way to familiarize sailors with the proper firing techniques of the 12-gauge shotgun.

Gary 138k 26 January 2007: the Pacific Ocean - Damage control training team member Master-at-Arms 1st Class Devon Wilson assist a shipmate during dress out for a general quarters drill aboard the guided missile frigate Gary. Gary is underway for a regularly scheduled underway period. Gary, currently on deployment in the western Pacific, is scheduled for a port visit in Cambodia, the first by a U. S. Navy ship in 30 years. The frigate is assigned to Destroyer Squadron One Five and operates out of Yokosuka, Japan, as part of the Navys Forward Deployed Naval Forces.

Gary 124k 04 February 2007: Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia - Information Systems Technician 1st Class Kufere Usanga colors a coloring book with a child of the Bukit Harap Home for Children with Special Needs and Orphanage during a visit to Malaysia by guided missile frigate Gary. Approximately 20 Sailors interacted and spent some quality time with the children from Bukit Harap Home during a community relations project in the city. Gary is currently on deployment in the western Pacific.

Gary 243k 09 February 2007: Sihanoukville, Cambodia - U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia Joseph A. Mussomeli and Commanding Officer of guided-missile frigate USS Gary (FFG 51) Cmdr. Joseph Deleon conduct a press conference with local and international news agencies during the Gary's historic port visit. Gary is currently in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, marking the first visit by a U.S. Navy ship in 30 years. The crew will participate in medical assistance and community relation projects as well as professional exchanges with their Cambodian counterpart.

Gary 464k 26 August 2013: the Pacific Ocean - Sailors assigned to the U.S. Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment Team 101 embark onto a rigid-hull inflatable boat during small boat operations aboard the guided-missile frigate Gary. Joint interagency and international relationships strengthen U.S. Third Fleet's ability to respond to crises and protect the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners.

Gary 192k 17 April 2015: San Diego, Cal. - Seaman DeQuincy Thompson embraces his daughter following the return of the guided-missile frigate Gary to Naval Base San Diego after completing its final deployment before decomissioning. During the seven-month deployment Gary operated in the U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet and U.S. 3rd Fleet areas of operations and played an integral role in Operation Martillo.

Gary 203k 20 May 2015: Seal Beach, Cal. - Port rigger George Serna helps offload the last of the ammunition from Gary at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach. After more than 30 years of distinguished service, Gary is tentatively scheduled to decommission on 23 July 2015, at Naval Station San Diego.
