  • Laid down in 1963 as C. E. Dant a Maritime Administration type (C4-S-1u) hull under Maritime Administration contract (MA 129) at National Steel and Shipbuilding Co., San Diego, CA.
  • Launched, date unknown
  • Delivered to the Maritime Administration, 6 February 1963, for operation by States Lines
  • Named changed to SS Santa Ana, date unknown
  • Reacquired by the Maritime Administration for assignment to the Ready Reserve Fleet (RRF) in 1980
  • Berthed at Orange, TX. as part of the Maritime Administration Ready Reserve Fleet
  • When activated Cape John (T-AK-5022) is assigned to the Military Sealift Command (MSC) as one of the Military Sealift Command's six Modular Cargo Delivery System Ready Reserve Force Ships
  • Cape John can be activated in 20 days
