  • Built in 1977 at Nipon Kokan Kaisha Shipyard, Yokohama, Japan as a multi-purpose carrier for Wilhelmsen Lines
  • Purchased in 1988 by Red River Lines, re-flagged US and renamed MV Advantage
  • Acquired in 1988 by the US Navy Military Sealift Command (MSC) on a time-charter contract with Red River
  • Advantage (AK-9682) was one of the Military Sealift Command's 36 ships in the Prepositioning Program
  • Charter completed circa 1997
  • Purchased in 1997 by Sealift Inc. for commercial service
