  • Laid down, 1 March 1961, as SS Oregon a Maritime Commission type (C5-S-MA1us) S-1u) hull under Maritime Commission contract (MA hull 95) at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock, Newport News, VA.
  • Launched, 16 September 1961
  • Delivered to States Steamship Co., 19 April 1962
  • Sold to Moore-McCormack Lines in the 1970s, renamed SS Mormactide
  • Returned to the Maritime Administration in 1982 for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River, Fort Eustis, VA.
  • Withdrawn from the Reserve Fleet in November 1988 for conversion to a Training Ship
  • Renamed TS Empire State VI and converted at Bay Shipbuilding Co., Sturgeon Bay, WI.
  • Delivered to the State University of New York Maritime College at Fort Schuyler, New York, 31 December 1989
  • Final Disposition, USTS Empire State (T-AP-1001) departed SUNY Maritime College in November 2022 for Brownsville, TX. to be dismantled. Vessel towed from layup berth to breaker's yard in February 2023, dismantling to be completed sometime by late spring/summer.
