USS Frank Cable (AS-40)

Captain Andrew B. St. John USN
Captain St. John, a native of Texas, received his commission after graduating from Rice University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He holds a Master of Engineering Degree in Environmental Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Master’s Degree in National Security Studies from the National War College.

St. John’s sea tours include serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets. He qualified in submarines onboard USS CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI (SSN 705), served as Engineering Officer onboard USS ALEXANDRIA (SSN 757), and as Executive Officer on USS BREMERTON (SSN 698) and USS COLUMBIA (SSN 771). During his tour onboard COLUMBIA, he earned the Pacific Fleet’s Arleigh Burke Trophy. He commanded USS PASADENA (SSN 752) home ported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, from February 2009 to July 2011. During this period, the ship conducted two western Pacific deployments, earning two Meritorious Unit Citations.

Ashore, St. John served on the staff of the NROTC Unit at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and as the Material Officer on the staff of Submarine Development Squadron 12. He has served as the Deputy Executive Assistant for the Director of Warfare Integration (OPNAV N8F) and Deputy Commander for Submarine Squadron ONE. He most recently served as the Chief of Staff for Joint Interagency Task Force West, the Executive Agent for DoD counter-narcotic efforts within U.S. Pacific Command.

St. John’s awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, along with several service and unit awards.
