CDR. Kimberly Elaine Jones, USN
Commanding Officer

Commander Kimberly Jones is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Tuskegee University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

In 1999, Commander Jones entered the Navy through the Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program. In 2001, she was commissioned as an Ensign from Officer Candidate School and subsequently completed the Division Officer Course at Surface Warfare Officers School Command, Newport, Rhode Island.

Commander Jones’ first division officer tour was aboard USS JUNEAU (LPD 10) homeported in Sasebo, Japan, where she served as Radio Division Officer and later Antenna Maintenance Officer. Upon completion of naval nuclear power training in Charleston, South Carolina she reported to ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) as a Reactor Mechanical Division Officer.

As a department head, Commander Jones served as Operations Officer in USS FORD (FFG 54) and Main Propulsion Assistant in USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74).

Commander Jones’ shore tours include serving as Executive Assistant to Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific in Singapore. Other shore tours include: Officer in Charge, Commander, Naval Air Forces, Pacific detachment Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, serving as type commander representative for three aircraft carrier drydock availabilities; Senior Military Advisor in the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues at the U.S. State Department where she served as the Department of Defense representative for the State Department’s implementation of the U.S. National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security.

She is entitled to wear the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards) and various campaign medals and ribbons.
