USS Rushmore (LSD-47)



CDR. Rob Tryon, USN

A native of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, CDR Rob Tryon commissioned upon graduating from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariners license.
His sea duty assignments include division officer tours aboard USS CARR (FFG 52) as Combat Information Center Officer and aboard USS STOUT (DDG 55) as Fire Control Officer. As a department head, he served aboard USS SAN ANTONIO (LPD 17) as Operations Officer and then aboard Commander, Amphibious Squadron FIVE as the Operations and Plans Officer. His most recent tour was as Executive Officer of USS RUSHMORE (LSD 47). He assumed command of USS RUSHMORE (LSD 47) in May 2018.
Ashore, he served as a Surface Warfare Test and Evaluation action officer on the Chief of Naval Operations Staff and served as a Surface Warfare Officer detailer at the Navy Personnel Command (PERS 41).
He earned a Master of Science in Information Systems and Operations from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California and a Master of Art in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U. S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
CDR Tryon’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards) and various unit and service awards.
