MSC-172 Class Coastal Minesweeper:

  • Originally planned as AMS-188
  • Reclassified by U. S. Navy as a Coastal Minesweeper, MSC-188, 7 February 1955
  • Laid down 30 March 1955 as MSC-188 by L. Smit and zn, Kinderdijk, Holland under the off-shore procurement plan of the Military Defense Assistance Pact and based on the design of the British "Ton" Class Coastal Minesweeper
  • Launched 30 March 1956
  • Completed 20 August 1956
  • Commissioned Veere (M 842), 27 September 1956
  • Underwent Fleet Modernization and Rehabilitation (FRAM) program in March 1970 at Van der Giessen de Noord Shipyard, Krimpen aan den IJssel, Netherlands
  • Recommissioned as a minehunter 17 October 1972
  • Struck from the Naval Register in 1984
  • Placed out of service 19 October 1984
  • Sold for scrap 18 March 1987 to Westerveld of Amsterdam, Holland and scrapped.
