MSC-172 Class Coastal Minesweeper: Laid down in 1953 as Motor Minesweeper, AMS-252 by Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie, Cherbourg, France under the off-shore procurement plan of the Military Defense Assistance Pact; Launched 12 August 1954; Completed 5 October 1954 as Achernar (M 744); Reclassified by U. S. Navy as a Coastal Minesweeper, MSC-252, 7 February 1955; Commissioned 16 March 1955; Decommissioned in 1970. Fate unknown.

Specifications: Displacement 375 t.; Length 144'; Beam 27'; Draft 8' 3"; Speed 14 kts; Complement 39; Armament one 20mm; Propulsion two 880shp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, two shafts.
