PCE-842 Class Patrol Craft Escort/YDG-8 Class District Degaussing Vessel:

  • Laid down 27 May 1943 as PCE-876 by the Albina Engine and Machine Works, Portland, OR
  • Launched 30 September 1943
  • Reclassified as a District Degaussing Vessel, YDG-8, 23 December 1943
  • Commissioned USS YDG-8, 10 June 1944
  • Decommissioned in May 1946
  • Reclassified as a Degaussing Ship, ADG-8, 1 November 1947
  • Decommissioned in November 1947 and laid up in the Pacific Reserve Fleet San Diego Group
  • Named Lodestone 1 February 1955
  • Struck from the Navy Register 21 February 1975
  • Sold for scrap to the National Steel and Shipbuilding Co., Treasure Island, CA for $44,500
  • Scrapped 1 May 1976.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 640 t.
  • Length 184' 6"
  • Beam 33'
  • Draft 9'
  • Speed 14 kts.
  • Complement 65
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose mount and four 20mm mounts
  • Propulsion: Two 900bhp General Motors 12-567A diesel engines, Falk single reduction gear, two shafts.
