SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser/PGM-1 Class Motor Gunboat:

  • Laid down 10 March 1943 as PC-1072 by the Mathis Yacht Building Co., Camden, New Jersey
  • Reclassified SC-1072 in April 1943
  • Launched 17 June 1943
  • Commissioned USS SC-1072, 28 June 1943
  • Reclassified as a Motor Gunboat, PGM-7, 10 December 1943
  • While underway from Sterling Harbor, Treasury Islands, en route to New Ireland and New Britain for operations was rammed by PGM-4 in her engineroom, port side on 18 July 1944
  • Towed to Carter City Small Craft Repair Base, Florida Island, Solomon Islands for repairs
  • Destroyed in April 1945.

  • Length 110' 10"
  • Beam 23'
  • Draft 10' 10"
  • Speed 21 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: Two 40mm gun mounts, and six twin .50 cal. machine guns
  • Propulsion: Two 1,540bhp General Motors (Electro-Motive Div.) 16-184A diesel engines, two shafts.
