PGM-9 Class Motor Gunboat/PC-461 Class Submarine Chaser: Laid down, 27 September 1943 as PC-806 by the Commercial Iron Works, Portland, OR; Launched, 30 October 1943; Commissioned USS PGM-11, 13 December 1944. She was active in the Pacific theater, primarily accompanying minesweepers in and around the Philippines. These boats served an important support role during the war. Eldon Charles Schmitt, a former crewmember recalled that "They had more guns per square foot than any other ship at that time, hence the name gunboat." Fate unknown.
Specifications: Displacement 280 (lt) 450 (fl) t; Length 173' 8"; Beam 23'; Draft 10' 10"; Speed; 19 kts; Complement 65; Armament one single 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, one twin 40mm gun mounts, six 20mm guns, one twin .50 cal. machine gun, one 60mm mortar; Propulsion two 2,560bhp Hooven-Owen-Rentschler RB-99DA diesel engines, Westinghouse single reduction gear, two shafts.
