PGM-40 was built for the Philippines.

PGM-39 Class Motor Gunboat:

  • Laid down as PGM-40 by the Tacoma Boatbuilding Co., Tacoma, WA
  • Launched 9 January 1960
  • Delivered in March 1960, transferred to the Philippines and named RPS Catanduanes (PG 62) under the U.S. military assistance program
  • Reclassified G-62
  • Transferred to the Coast Guard in 1992 and reclassified BRP Catanduanes (PG 21)
  • Sold for scrap in June 2006.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 110 t; Length 95'
  • Beam 19'
  • Draft 6' 9"
  • Speed 20 kts.
  • Armament: Two 20mm mounts and two .50 cal. machine guns
  • Propulsion: Two 1,100hp Mercedes Benz 12V493 TY57 diesel engines, two shafts.

    Namesake:

    Catanduanes is an island province located in the Bicol Region of Luzon in the Philippines. It is the 12th-largest Island in the Philippines. Its capital is Virac and the province lies to the east of Camarines Sur across Maqueda Channel
